Executive Summary
Contract manufacturer Accellent announces it has received a subpoena from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Minneapolis in a Nov. 21 8-K filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission. The subpoena, issued Oct. 28, requests documents relating to polyimide products the firm produces, which Guidant uses as an insulator for implantable cardioverter defibrillators and in other products. The New York Times has previously reported that the deterioration of this material under certain conditions might have played a role in some of the ICD malfunctions reported by the company during the past six months.
