Executive Summary
ZINC SUPPLEMENTATION LOWERS MORBIDITY IN RURAL MEXICAN CHILDREN, researchers assert in a study published in the January issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Reporting the findings of a double-blind, randomized trial of 219 preschoolers between 18 and 36 months of age, Jorge Rosado, National Institute for Nutrition, Mexico City, et al. stated that "zinc supplementation reduced the number of morbid episodes in these growth-stunted rural Mexico preschoolers," but neither zinc nor iron supplements influenced growth or body composition.
