Pandemic Forces FDA To Postpone Phasing Out Product Codes (Again)
The US agency had initially postponed phasing out NHRIC/NDC codes for Unique Device Identifiers until September 2021 after stakeholders argued for more time. Now the deadline has been delayed again – until September 2023 – thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A final guidance document issued Aug. 30 will allow manufacturers to keep using legacy codes, such as National Health Related Item Codes and National Drug Code numbers, until Sept. 24, 2021.
