New spinal player emerges with Precision Medical and Spinal USA combo

Two privately-held US spine companies, Spinal USA and Precision Medical, have been acquired and merged to form new concern, Precision Spine. Newly-incorporated Precision Spine paid around $72m for both firms. A spokesperson for the new company said it had structured the transaction "in the most efficient way to accomplish the deal".

St Jude Medical had a heavy focus on its intravascular imaging offering at this year’s EuroPCR meeting, presenting data supporting its optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology. OCT provides intravascular images to help assess culprit lesions, which can improve stent selection and deployment, according to St Jude.
