The Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee at the UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued guidance supporting the use of bronchial thermoplasty for treating severe asthma – but only in the short and medium term. As for the long-term safety and efficacy of the treatment, which is administered using the Alair device by Boston Scientific, more evidence would be required, according to the guidance.
