Ex-Medtronic chief Bill Hawkins to head up Immucor

Former Medtronic chief Bill Hawkins has come out of a short-lived retirement to lead privately-held blood screening specialist Immucor. He will replace outgoing CEO Joshua Levine on 17 October – Mr Levine has been at Immucor for less than four months, having joined the company in June (www.clinica.co.uk, 13 June 2011). He is stepping down to spend more time with his family, and said the challenge of having his family in California and his office in Atlanta, Georgia, had become unsustainable.

OCT provides intravascular images to help assess culprit lesions, which can improve stent selection and deployment, according to St Jude.
A big topic at this year’s EuroPCR, held in Paris on 19-22 May, was drug-coated balloons (DCBs). One of the leaders in the field, Medtronic, presented positive data from two studies of its IN.PACT Admiral balloon, which could support an expanded indication for the device.
