Quarterly results round-up: Wright in line, Zoll's shares surge on strong Q3 performance

US dental firm Dentsply International, which recently won the bidding race to acquire AstraZeneca's Astra Tech unit, has reported 8% revenue growth during its second fiscal quarter. The firm posted Q2 sales of $609.4m, compared with $565.1m during the same period last year. Its net income was also up, at $74.2m versus $72.4m in Q2 2010.

St Jude Medical had a heavy focus on its intravascular imaging offering at this year’s EuroPCR meeting, presenting data supporting its optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology. OCT provides intravascular images to help assess culprit lesions, which can improve stent selection and deployment, according to St Jude.
A big topic at this year’s EuroPCR, held in Paris on 19-22 May, was drug-coated balloons (DCBs). One of the leaders in the field, Medtronic, presented positive data from two studies of its IN.PACT Admiral balloon, which could support an expanded indication for the device.
