Zimmer launches LPS-Flex knee prosthesis in the US

Executive Summary

Zimmer has launched its NexGen LPS-Flex mobile bearing knee in the US. The device incorporates the company's Prolong highly crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) and has an anteriorly-positioned pivot near the entry point of the anterior cruciate ligament, replicating the anatomic centre of knee rotation. Warsaw, Indiana-based Zimmer says the product is resistant to wear and delamination. XLPE was launched more than nine years ago for the NexGen Fixed Bearing system. Since then, a version of this material specifically formulated for the knee has been used in more than 450,000 implantations worldwide.
