Thermo Fisher seeking buyers for lab-testing unit

Thermo Fisher is looking to sell two lab-testing divisions, Athena Diagnostics and Lancaster Labs. Citing sources close to the matter, Bloomberg reported that the Waltham, Massachusetts group has hired Goldman Sachs to broker a deal for Athena, which provides testing for neurological disorders, while Barclays Capital has been charged with helping to sell Lancaster, which provides lab services for pharma and environmental companies. Thermo could stand to gain up to $1bn from the divestments; the sales of the labs are in line with the company's strategy of focusing more on equipment sales instead of services.
