Misonix enters South Africa with distributor deal

Ultrasonic device expert Misonix has signed up Applied Bio Surgical (ABS) as the exclusive distributor of its technology in South Africa. The two firms have entered a three-year deal, whereby Johannesburg-based ABS will supply Misonix’s SonaStar ultrasonic surgical aspirator and BoneScapel ultrasonic bone cutter throughout the country. The agreement provides annual minimum purchase requirements. Further financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. This is the first time that Farmingdale, New York-based Misonix will sell its products in the country. A spokesperson for the firm told Clinica that ABS is currently obtaining approval to sell the products in South Africa and is aiming to begin commercialisation of the devices “within a few months”.
