PerkinElmer (Waltham, Massachusetts) has launched its DELFIA Xpress PlGF Assay in the EU, for the early detection of pre-eclampsia in pregnant women. It is the first placental growth factor assay kit designed to screen pregnant women for early-onset pre-eclampsia during their first trimester of pregnancy. The assay, designed for use with PerkinElmer’s DELFIA Xpress table-top clinical instrument, detects levels of placental growth factor (PlGF). Reduced maternal serum concentration of PlGF is seen in a high proportion of pregnancies that go on to develop pre-eclampsia. The assay is not yet available in the US or Canada.
