Svelte Medical Systems' Acrobat Stent-on-a-Wire (SOAW) bare metal stent is now available in Europe, after the firm CE marked it. The device can be used for direct stenting, as it does not require coronary guidewire and balloon dilatation catheters. This means it could reduce procedure times and cost, the company claims. It can also reduce the use of contrast medium. The New Providence, New Jersey firm successfully concluded its first human trials of the device in July, and plans to start US clinical trials next year. It is also developing a drug-eluting version of its Acrobat SOAW technology.
