Radiologists believe biopsy for post-menopausal bleeding should be abandoned in favour of ultrasound. Speaking at RSNA in Chicago (November 26th-December 1st), Dr Theodore Dubinsky, assistant professor of radiology at the University of Texas, Houston said: "Biopsy of the endometrium is currently considered the standard of care by many gynaecologists but it misses more than 50% of cancers." Furthermore, only 40% of post-menopausal bleeding is caused by endometrial problems.
