Executive Summary
Standardisation procedures have delayed the launch of the Spanish medical card until 1997. Cards already exist in many regions in Spain, but they are incompatible, says the Spanish expert group on health cards , Giets. However, the Interterritorial Commission, which serves as a working group between the regions, believes the establishment of a national database is of greater importance. The European Union has, so far, issued no standards on individual patient cards, says a report in Diario Medico.
