Hospitals in Spain could save 53% of their purchasing costs if they centralised spending around one hospital, concludes a Madrid-based study. The study was carried out in the capital's Area 11, which centralised purchasing decisions at the Doce de Octubre hospital. Another study carried out at Viladecans Hospital in Barcelona shows that the creation of a department dedicated to purchasing can reduce costs by more than 4%, says a report in Diario Medico.
