Executive Summary
Austria-based AVL launched two blood analysis products in Europe during Medica, some six months after product shipments began in the US (see Clinica No 657, p 15). AVL's Swiss subsidiary, AVL Medical Instruments, introduced the Omni modular system for the measurement of blood gases, electrolytes and CO oximetry which needs a sample volume of 35 micro l and gives results within 30 seconds. Furthermore, an automatic, battery-operated, portable pH/blood gas analyser, Opti 1, was introduced featuring a single-use sensor cassette with three optical sensors.
