Allergan and Chiron settle patent dispute:
This article was originally published in Clinica
Allergan and Microtech have settled a patent infringement dispute with Chiron concerning the Bartell patent for a surgical injector for inserting intra-ocular lenses following cataract removal. A US court ruled earlier this year that the patent is owned by Microtech and exclusively licensed to Allergan Medical Optics (see Clinica No 660, p 11). Chiron has obtained a licence to the Bartell patent on undisclosed terms. Meanwhile, Allergan and Microtech allege that Staar Surgical continues to infringe the patent and a trial date of April 1996 has been set for that case.
