A surgeon at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London has developed a safer trocar for minimally invasive surgery. Jeremy Thompson's trocar is made up of two parts: a screw-threaded obdurator with a hollow centre and a thin stylet. Two sizes of cannulae have been produced so far: 5 mm and a 10 mm. The stylet is 2 mm in diameter.
