Executive Summary

Iran's current five-year economic plan envisages the addition of over 30,000 hospital beds to the country's healthcare sector. According to the UK ABHI, Iran would welcome cross licensing, joint ventures or "any form of close co-operation" with UK medical device manufacturers. However, fierce competition can be expected from Germany "which also enjoys a great deal of respect in Iran", says the ABHI in its Health-Care Focus newsletter. The association notes that payment is a substantial problem in Iran, with 360-day letters of credit being common practice.
