Executive Summary
Abbott Laboratories (UK) has introduced a new test for Chlamydia trachomatis - the first based on its DNA ligase chain reaction (LCR) technology. It is claimed LCR sensitivity is 1-5 molecules or organisms per given sample. Abbott introduced the LCx automated system in June (see Clinica No 657, p 1). Chlamydia is asymptomatic in over 70% of women and 25-30% of men in the Western world.
