Executive Summary
Every French hospital must set up a department responsible for the safe installation, maintenance and repair of anaesthesia equipment. A Health Ministry decree published in the French Official Journal (October 13th) states that hospital directors in both the public and private sectors are responsible for ensuring that these departments are set up and that their functions are understood by all staff working with medical equipment used in anaesthesia. It also rules that such equipment should be subject to random controls.
