Paris hospital forced to test thousands for HIV:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The Saint-Germain-en-Laye Hospital in Paris, France, is to test at least 5,000 patients for HIV after discovering one of its surgeons has been infected for 13 years. Hospital official Michel Pencard told reporters the orthopaedic surgeon was unknowingly infected with the virus during surgery on a female patient in 1983. He was not diagnosed until earlier this year. The hospital said the odds were extremely small that any of the doctor's patients had been infected.
