Executive Summary
China's Ministry of Health hopes to have comprehensive medical insurance legislation in place within the next two years, reports Asian Medical News. All employees in cities and towns are to be covered by a private insurance system comprising "social overall planning medical funds" (SOPMF) and "individual medical funds" (IMA), says Dr Zhao Tong-gang, deputy general of the Department of Health and Policy. Basic medical treatment will be paid from the IMA, which will comprise contributions from individuals and employers. This will be supplemented, in the case of more expensive treatment, from the employer-financed SOPMF.
