Baxter's Tokyo subsidiary has launched the Home APD System Yume dialyser in Japan. The company, which leases the system through hospitals for ¥7,000 ($275) per month, expects demand to reach some 1,000 units in the first year. The company predicts 20,000 sufferers will be receiving peritoneal dialysis in Japan in 2000. At present, only 6% of Japan's chronic kidney patients use peritoneal dialysis. Over 4,000 of the 12 kg Yume systems are already in use in Europe and the US.
