Executive Summary
Toshiba's 1995 medical equipment sales performed well outside Japan, particularly in Europe, Australia and Brazil. Overall, medical sales were up slightly in fiscal 1995 (ended March), Toshiba writes in its annual report. The medical business is part of Toshiba's information/communication systems division which saw sales rise 9%, representing 52% of the Japanese electronic group's total turnover (see Clinica No 657, p 10). Toshiba adds that its X-ray CT systems using helical scanning enjoyed large gains and offset the increasing price competition in Japan and an "extremely difficult export environment" for medical equipment.
