Growth in the Thai medical market is slowing, according to the Thai Medical Products Suppliers' Association (MPSA). However, in spite of "budget restraints and competitive pressures", industry growth remains steady at 15% per year, says MPSA. The market is estimated to be worth Baht 6,000 million ($243 million) per year. Thailand now has over 100,000 hospital beds for a population of some 59 million and two-thirds of the general hospitals are in rural areas (as are two-thirds of the population). Some 25% of hospitals are private, mostly based in Bangkok.
