Pump up the frequency for dental diagnosis

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The diagnosis of dental caries may be improved by using high- frequency ultrasound waves, according to German researchers. This overcomes the traditional problem of using ultrasound in dental procedures - that the cramped oral cavity causes the waves to spread in a complex manner which makes imaging difficult - and opens up new diagnostic possibilities, says the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Technology.
