This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The cost of breast screening in England was estimated at £27 ($43) per person in 1993-4, according to a written parliamentary reply. Of the total breast cancer screening budget, around £1.4 million - or 5% - was spent on testing women over 65. The UK government is considering whether to extend the present screening programme to women in this age group (see Clinica No 656, p 3).
