Executive Summary

UK Health Secretary Virginia Bottomley is visiting representatives of the US healthcare industry as part of her government's Prescribe UK initiative. During the trip Ms Bottomley will have talks with US Secretary for Health and Human Services Donna Shalala and has visits planned to American Home Products and Genzyme. The delegation is in the US to hear about developments in US healthcare and to promote UK healthcare exports. Among those travelling is Jack Barnes, who recently took over the international and industry division at the UK's Department of Health (see Clinica No 642, p 2).
