Executive Summary
Strikes by doctors are planned for May 8th in Spain and further strike action is expected the following week. Insalud doctors are striking primarily because of pay imbalances between them and their counterparts in the autonomous regions. The state doctors' union, CESM, says strike action is necessary because attempts over the last three years to reach agreements with the government over working conditions have failed. Doctors in Andalucia, Valencia and Galicia are planning to strike in sympathy on May 15th. Also threatening strike action are members of the nurses union, SATSE.
