Executive Summary
A UK report on congenital limb defects has identified three areas for further research but warns against a non-specific case-controlled study. The Advisory Group on Congenital Limb Reduction Defects calls for case-controlled and cohort studies of chorionic villus sampling and research into the effects of folic acid supplements. However the group believes that a case-controlled study without a strong hypothesis would be hampered by broad classification, poor assessment of cases and a wide range of possible causes.
