Executive Summary

Fears voiced in 1981 by the government Ofstad committee that medical device injuries would constitute a major safety problem in Norway have proved groundless. Although Norway still lacks a comprehensive national device accident and injury register, the reporting systems introduced over the last ten years have shown that patient injuries are not as numerous as the Ofstad committee predicted, say researchers from SINTEF, Norway's Institute for Hospital Research, writing in Tidsskrift for den Norske Laegeforening.
