A new company has been set up in Oslo, Norway, to manufacture and market remote telediagnosis systems based on microscopic images communicated via satellite. Second Opinion Solutions is a joint venture between Japanese optical device manufacturer Hamamatsu Photonics, Norwegian communications company Telenor Global, French computer firm Bull and a UK venture capital company. The telediagnosis system is based on Hamamatsu's high-performance digital camera, reports Japan Medical Review, and is aimed at people living in remote areas without specialist medical resources.
