bioMerieux UK has launched a latex agglutination assay for Staphylococcus aureus. The assay, called Slidex Staph Plus, offers 97.6% sensitivity to methicillin resistant and 98.5% sensitivity to methicillin resistant and methicillin sensitive strains combined. Slidex Staph Plus detects clumping factor, the body's immune response to infection as well as protein A and peripheral and capsular antigens. Positive samples form thick agglutinates within 30 seconds.
