Japan's first blood test for congestive heart failure:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Scios (US) and Shionogi (Japan) have introduced the first blood test in Japan for the diagnosis and monitoring of congestive heart failure. The test was developed by Shionogi under a licence from Scios and will be marketed in Japan by Shionogi. It is based on the detection of b-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels in the blood of patients with acute heart failure or acute exacerbation of chronic heart failure. Scios, which is based in Mountain View, California, is seeking additional licensees to develop BNP-based diagnostic tests for heart failure applications in the rest of the world.
