Executive Summary

France's attempt at an early introduction of an EU Directive banning single-turbine helicopters in medical emergency services has been a fiasco. The government has had to postpone its regulation several times and is still facing opposition since only one emergency helicopter in the country is fitted with a twin-turbine engine, The Lancet reports. The Directive will ban all single-turbine medical emergency helicopters from 1998.
