The new Italian Health Minister, Rosy Bindi, has declared that her priorities include issuing guidelines for the new healthcare service provider arrangements (see Clinica No 705, p 2). Ms Bindi, a strong supporter of the welfare state, has already received appeals from regional healthcare assessors for the government to make up current and past shortfalls between the healthcare budget allowance and actual spending.
