The European Carotid Surgery Trialists' Collaborative Group does not recommend surgery in patients with moderate stenosis of the common carotid. Writing in the Lancet (June 8th), the research groups from 15 European countries say endarterectomy has no benefit to patients with moderate blockage and could even be detrimental.
