OMI (US) has received 510(k) clearance from the US FDA to market its Mayfield/Acciss image-guided stereotactic workstation for brain surgery in the US. The system uses a directional operational arm to identify the border of abnormalities in the brain, such as tumours. The Cincinnati, Ohio-based company says the workstation could also be used for orthopaedic and spinal surgery in the future.
