Remaining areas of the third stage of the German health reforms have been agreed in the Bundestag, the lower house of parliament, and will probably be discussed in the Bundesrat (upper house) in June. Measures include regional budgets for hospitals and increased flexibility for Krankenkassen (see Clinica No 680, p 2). The government's proposed cost-cutting package has had its first reading in the Bundestag and needs two more readings before passing to the Bundesrat (see Clinica No 703, p 2).
