Under Taiwan's national health insurance programme, women aged 30 and over are eligible for an annual Pap smear test. Entitlement drops to once every three years if the woman has a negative result for three consecutive years. Take-up rate for cervical cancer screening during the first year of the country's health insurance scheme was around 12.5%, Dr Yue-Chune Lee of the NHI Task Force revealed at the recent Pan-Asian Healthcare Summit in Singapore.
