This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Human papillomavirus (HPV) screening could save 500 to 1,000 lives a year in the UK, says the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (ICRF). The charity made the claim after an audit of the UK NHS cervical screening programme. Nearly half of the potential cervical cancer cases were prevented in 1992, according to the audit which was published in the British Journal of Cancer this month.
