Executive Summary
Hepatitis A has been found in clotting factor concentrates in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Reporting the findings in MMWR (Vol 45, pp 29-32), the CDC says three cases of hepatitis A have been linked to an Alpha Therapeutics' factor VIII product, Alphanate. Hepatitis A virus is not inactivated by solvent-detergent treatments used to destroy HBV and HCV. A second product, AlphaNine, is also under investigation following a fourth case of hepatitis A.
