Shimadzu has developed a digital X-ray system. Images are created using half the amount of radiation and data are stored on optical or magnetic discs, so that the images can be sent to doctors in remote regions. The machine will be available in early 1997 and will sell for ¥0 million ($0.6 million). Shimadzu is hoping to sell 50 units in the first year.
