Executive Summary
Israeli start-up Discover Medical Devices has CE marked SomnuSeal, its continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) mask, for sale in Europe. The device is used to treat obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). SomnuSeal is the first self-adaptable intra-oral mask that successfully addresses the problem of non-compliance in OSA patients, Discover Medical says. Many OSA patients do not correctly use external CPAP masks that deliver pressurised air through the nose or the nose and mouth, the Givataym-based firm contends; the SomnuSeal mask is instead placed between the gums and cheeks. Worldwide, 300 million people suffer from OSA, Discover Medical says, and most of them remain undiagnosed.
