Executive Summary
All sperm and egg donors in the UK should be tested to determine whether they are carriers of the cystic fibrosis gene, says the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority in an updated code of practice to be published early next year. It recommends that tests of donors should only be for recessive disorders and recipients should be told. Donors are already screened for diseases including HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and syphilis. The code guides private clinics on how they should carry out their activities.
