Two decades after the appearance of HIV, an estimated 30 million people have contracted the virus, says a World Bank policy research report. Six million people have died of AIDS and life expectancy in developing countries where 90% of the infections occur, has been reduced by more than 10 years in some cases. For example, in Zimbabwe life expectancy has been reduced by 22 years, says the report. Given the limited public resources, the report considers which measures for confronting the epidemic should be public priorities.
