The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration has cleared Heartstream's automatic external defibrillator for sale in Australia. The device, which was cleared in the US in September 1996, is designed for first response teams. There are an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 sudden cardiac arrests each year in Australia. Heartstream's defibrillator will be distributed by Bard Australia.
