Somnus Medical of Sunnyvale, California in the US, has launched an outpatient treatment for snoring. A retractable needle delivers low-energy, radio frequency beam burns away cells in the area of the uvula, palate and back of the tongue. The body absorbs the dead tissue, leaving more clearance for breathing. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the procedure is in clinical trials in Europe and the US.
