German Krankenkassen deficit down to DM 6.3 billion in 1996

Germany's public health insurance funds (Krankenkassen) recorded a deficit of DM 6.3 billion ($4.2 billion) in 1996. This is an improvement compared with a deficit of around DM 7 billion in 1995. Total expenditure rose 3.9% to DM 270 billion, while income rose 4.3% to DM 264 billion.
